These cameras are classified as Small Business equipment as opposed to Consumer end users. This is uncommon for Cicso, MOST of their support is acceptable.
Many improvements have been made to the newest model WVC210. If money is an issue go with the WVC200 the improvements are not that significant.
This is an older model of the product. Their solution was, "it is your ISP problem," with NO troubleshooting effort on their part whatsoever.
Both models have an email notification which is NON functional. When Cicso support was contacted, their help was non existant on the problem.
Must be all these cost cutting efforts that we end users get to suffer with. If you purchase one of these cameras, make sure you are buying the model you want.
It is somewhat cheaply made for a $250 camera. The camera was pretty easy to set up and get working on my network. I also set RTSP up and can view the feed via my cell phone. The PTZ is extremely noisy. I have a Linksys WVC54GCA which I cannot even use in my living room unless I wire it. All that is great.
It is directly under my Linksys WRT54G router, one floor down, and I had to tweak the position and antennas to get signal. It does make it easy to pull the feed directly from the camera rather than rely on a browser to view. The wireless range is pathetic. The downsides are that I was only getting about 10fps at 320x240, at best. Tight now, it is down to about 3fps and I need to investigate. I think this is common with anything Linksys.
I also have to power cycle it about every 2 weeks, or it gets buggy.I have no opinion on the included software, since it has yet to be opened.Overall, I like it better than the WVC54GCA, but I should, at 2 1/2 times the price.
The PTZ at least is doable - you can get it to work wirelessly with considerable effort setting up your router and the occasional reboot but bottomline these cameras at best are flaky when used wirelessly. I had the earlier version of the linksys video camera, the one that had a fixed lens. That one you could never get to work wirelessly period. And even if you can get them to work wirelessly it will be only after getting them to work wired for an extended period of time first. That said this camera when used wired is very reliable and I have been very happy - especially with the ability to remotely aim the lens which is something you will definitely want if you happened to work with the old fixed lens type.
The installation CD was (Old) as I needed to get a newer version from the Linksys site, also I needed to update the firmware for the camera and although the help desk was very good in pointing me in the right direction to get the firmware and setup disks when it came to the (wireless) configuration they failed and I'm sure that happened because this camera (WVC200) needed retooled (tested) at the factory. First of All let me say the Lynksys is Great. I returned this camera and purchased from you the WVC54GCA Linksys and I'm happy to report it was configured in less than one hour (wired and wireless). (Company and products)Now for the review: The WVC200 camera with audio has all the bells and whistles that a security camera would want to have. I never did get the (wireless) part configured and partly due to what was or wasn't in the packaged box. I will get more of this camera but I need one with all the bell and whistles that the (WVC200) offered. Hopefully Linksys will put out another model to replace the (WVC200)
Amazing product and very detailed instructions for setting it up. the camera is a big bigger than I expected but it works awesome.
